 | 12.01.05 | Felice PicanoGuyWriters celebrated the holidays with a social gathering on December 1st featuring noted novelist Felice Picano. Picano helped lay the foundations for the rise of the gay novel as a member of the famed Violet Quill writing collective of the 1970s, which also included Edmund White and Andrew Holleran. Picano read from his latest collection of short stories, Tales: From A Distant Planet, and dished the dirt about James Baldwin, relationships in the Violet Quill, deal making in Hollywood, opportunities in television, raising standards for gay writing, and the new literary anthology Van Gogh’s Ear.
A fabulous crowd of twenty diverse gay writers gathered for the event, which also included readings by GuyWriters poets and fiction writers Michael Allen, Yves Moralex, Jay Frazier and Gary Pedler as well as Brian Lawrence reading from his new book, In Search of River Phoenix. Many thanks to Gary Pedler for organizing this special evening, and especially to Jay Frazier for hosting the social.
