GuyWriters
Writing Groups
GuyWriters' writing groups are a helpful and lively way to improve your craft as a writer by sharing your work and receiving constructive feedback. The groups are run on a quarterly basis: members submit at least one piece of work before the first session, then attend three consecutive meetings, and finally share their work with the public in a GuyWriters reading or publication.
GuyWriters currently hosts two writing groups that meet regularly: one for poets and one for playwrights. We are also forming a new group for prose writers.
Poetry Group
Poets are now meeting every second and fourth Tuesday of the month under the direction of Jay Siegel, a published poet who is putting together an open mic for GuyWriters poets at Books Inc. in the Castro for November 18th.
Playwrights Group
Playwrights meet every month with Matthew Graham Smith, a professional playwright and theatre arts instructor, who recently organized outings to see The Thrillpeddlers' "She-Bitch of Byzantium" and The Exit Theatre's "Loving Fathers" (directed by GuyWriter Ben Randle), which won a "Best of the Fringe" Award at the San Francisco Fringe Festival. Next up is Graham's own play "I'm Yours! Or Deranged By Love" at The Exit on October 3rd and a critique session on October 19th.
Prose Group
Our prose group is in search of a leader. You may be our guy if you know the local writing scene, have a history of prose writing, and enjoy meeting writers and organizing events.
If you're a poet or playwright looking to join our writing groups, or a prose writer who'd like to lead our prose group, please send an email to GuyWriters (at) gmail.com.
